Officer Jason Gates of the Kalamazoo Police Department was selected as the August 2014 Hero of the Month in the Law Enforcement and Corrections category. You voted to thank Officer Gates for his heroism when saving a motorist he had just stopped. Officer Gates will receive a certificate from Heroes Memorial Foundation and a $50 Visa Gift card as a token of our appreciation for a job well done. Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer Jason Gates, conducted a traffic stop of a motorist that ran a red light. Little did he know that he would save the driver's life. As Officer Gates approached the vehicle, he observed the female driver choking and proceeded to take her out of the vehicle and performed the Heimlich maneuver on her and saved her from choking. Officer Gates brings great credit upon himself and the law enforcement community.
